We've all been there, you know you're ready for the next step in your career journey...but you aren't sure what that next step is, or how you'll get there.
If you're feeling stuck in your career, here are some steps you can take to become inspired and regain momentum:
Take a step back and evaluate your current situation: Reflect on what it is that is causing you to feel stuck and what you'd like to change. Think about what works well now, what do you enjoy about your current (and past) roles? Also consider what you DON'T like doing or what doesn't work for you now. These can be things like company culture, job duties and even compensation.
Identify your strengths and passions: Consider your personal strengths, skills, and interests to help you determine what you would like to do next.
Do Research: Take career aptitude quizzes, research different types of industries, roles, and companies to map out your next step. Is your next step going to be a breaking into a new industry? Will you stay on your current path but aim to take on a leadership role? Are you more analytical and want to focus on behind the scenes work? Document all of those thoughts.
Set career goals: Establish specific, achievable, and time-bound career goals that align with your strengths and passions.
Update your skills: Consider taking courses, attending workshops or conferences, or getting certifications to enhance your skills and remain relevant in your field.
Network: Connect with people in your desired industry, attend events, and join professional organizations to expand your network and learn about new job opportunities.
Explore new job opportunities: Look for job openings that align with your goals.
Seek support: Reach out to a mentor, career coach, or counselor for guidance and support.
